Case Background

On January 12, 2017, the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources Board filed a Notice of Violation against Fiat Chrysler. Testing by these agencies showed that the vehicles had eight Auxiliary Emissions Control Devices. These eight devices resulted in the vehicles making excess emissions of nitrogen oxide (NOx).

The owners and lessees of the RAM 1500 and Grand Cherokee Jeep then filed a class action suit because they were misled by the manufacturer. They bought the vehicles thinking that the devices controlled the pollutants released by their vehicles but instead, the devices increased the pollutants.
